Manchester United has joined the race to sign highly coveted French midfielder Tanguy Ndombele from Lyon.
Ndombele has dominated the news in France with several Premier League sides showing interest in the 21-year-old defensive midfielder. Reports from England says United have indicated a strong interest in Ndombele and would contact Lyon this week for negotiations
Mourinho wants to add steel to his midfield after confirming the signing of Fred last week. Ndombele is seen as an ideal fit to the profile of a tall solid midfielder Mourinho covets. The midfielder could also be the replacement of midfielder Marouane Fellaini who is linked with a move out of Old Trafford this summer and have refused to sign a one-year extension.
Fellaini has failed to agree on a new contract with United despite Mourinho’s intervention. The Belgium international is currently mulling over a lucrative contract offered by AC Milan.
Ndombele had an impressive breakout season with Lyon last season. he made 48 appearances as Lyon finished third in ligue 1. The French club recently signed the 21-year-old on a permanent deal this summer.
Ndombele arrival could also pave way for the exit for fans favorite Ander Herera. The 28-year-old has been linked with a move back to former club Athletic Bilbao. The player’s contract runs out in 2019 and United want to get a transfer fee for the midfielder.
